The Art of Grief: An Art Therapy Workshop

In this workshop art and inner-imagery are explored for self-healing, self deiscovery and transformation.  Art provides invaluable entry points into the unique and shared human experiences of grief, dying, death, and loss.  It is based on medical research into deep imagery and the mind-body connection.  Art therapy invites participation in a safe and supportive environment, where individuals' efforts at self-expression are reinforced in an effort to confirm that their feelings are valid, fears are understood, and their needs are legitimate.  Visual images are capable of working on many levels, and of expressing seemingly contradictory ideas and feelings simultaneously, art making allows an individual the comfort, support and engery to go on with life.  Art making, as a healing process, has been shown to be effective in that it promotes a sense of joy, peace and relaxation.  These important interactions between participants and the art process helps the participant(s) move from isolation and loneliness to connection and empowerment; from denial to acceptance; from loss of control and anxiety to relief; and from despair to hope.  In this workshop participants are encouraged to express and appreciate their own stories.

This workshop is free of charge and all materials are provided.  You do NOT have to be an artist to attend.
